During the course, you'll receive housing, meals, hands-on classes, and all the support you need to complete your certification with ease.
With the assistance of the UNISERV, you'll receive support from the time you reserve your spot until you pick up your license at the Toyokawa Menkyo Center (if you're from another prefecture, you'll have to handle this step on your own).
Steps to Get a Truck Driver's License Through the Intensive Course

Changing from an automatic to a manual driver's license If your current transmission is automatic, you must first switch to a manual transmission. -

Booking a date at a Japanese driving school You will be able to choose your preferred date at the Japanese driving school. -

Revocation of the Menkyo Center's License After completing the intensive course, the final step is to pick up your driver’s license at the Menkyo Center. For residents of Aichi Prefecture, we provide assistance at the Toyokawa Menkyo Center. If you live in another prefecture, you will need to complete the license pickup process on your own at the Menkyo Center in your area.

What is included in the intensive course?

- There is no fee for failing a course (except in cases where the student is late)
Requirements
- Hold a manual driver's license
- Have a basic knowledge of Japanese
- For the Ōgata process, you must be 21 years of age or older and have held a Japanese driver's license for at least 3 years
- For the Chuugata process, you must be 20 years of age or older and have held a Japanese driver's license for at least 2 years
- Meet the specific requirements for each category
- You must not have any visible tattoos while at the driving school (tattoos on the hands, neck, and face are not allowed)
Important Considerations
- Spots are limited and may fill up quickly.
- The reservation can only be made after the automatic-to-manual category change has been completed (when applicable).
- Once your spot has been confirmed, payment to the driving school must be made within 5 business days.
- Driving school fees may vary by approximately ¥20,000 either way, depending on the available dates.
- The final amount will be confirmed at the time of booking.
Hello Work Benefit
If you meet the program requirements General Education and Training Allowance, you may request a refund of part of the amount paid for the course.
You can expect to receive approximately ¥56,000 to ¥75,000, depending on the category selected and Hello Work's assessment.
Requirements:
- Have contributed to unemployment insurance (雇用保険) for at least 12 months prior to the start of the course.
- If you have already used this benefit in the past, you must wait three years before submitting a new application.
- Refunds are requested only after the course has been completed and the certificate has been issued.
