Renewal of a Japanese Driver's License That Expired More Than 3 Years Ago
The process of Zenmen It is intended for people who have previously held a Japanese driver's license and wish to regain their driver's license after more than 3 years past due.
The entire process takes place at the Toyokawa Menkyo Center and includes an interview with the Japanese police, who will assess the driver's situation before issuing the new driver's license.
With the assistance of the UNISERV, you'll receive comprehensive support from the moment you request a translation from JAF until your new driver's license is issued.
Here are the steps to renew your Japanese driver's license:

Translation by JAF Please request an official translation of your Brazilian driver's license from the JAF (Japan Automobile Federation), as this document is required to begin the process.

Scheduling the interview After reviewing your documents, we will schedule your interview based on the Menkyo Center's availability.

Interview at the Menkyo Center On the scheduled day, our team will be with you every step of the way. Before the official interview, we’ll hold a preparatory session to explain how the interview with the Japanese police works.

Scheduling the Issuance After the interview is approved, the Menkyo Center itself will notify you of the date by which the process must be completed.

Issuance of a driver's license Please return to the Menkyo Center on the scheduled date to receive your new Japanese driver's license.

- The process is conducted exclusively at the Toyokawa Menkyo Center.
- Once the interview is scheduled, it cannot be canceled or rescheduled.
- If you do not pass the interview, you will need to reschedule and receive additional coaching, subject to the applicable fees.
- Fees Charged by the Menkyo Center are not included in the consulting package.
- The Brazilian driver's license must be valid.
- An expired Brazilian driver's license is not accepted for this process.

- Zairyu Card
- Individual Certificate of Residence (Juminhyo), showing nationality, Zairyu Card number, and complete visa information (type, duration, and validity), WITHOUT the MyNumber
- Driver's Record / History
- A document that includes your name in katakana (pay stub, insurance card, etc.).
- Digital Driver's License Installed on a Cell Phone
- Register on the GOV.BR app to request a Certificate of Migration History.
- 2 photos measuring 3 × 2.4 or 3 × 2.5
